Capital Air Services

Oxford based Capital Air Services provide charter flights, by helicopter or aeroplane, from any UK location to any destination in the world. Whether clients are travelling for business on a tight schedule, conducting aerial surveys or photo shoots, attending prestigious events or flying for the overall experience, Capital Air Services deliver a seamless end-to-end journey. With an ever expanding fleet of helicopters, flown by highly experienced IFR* pilots and supported by an outstanding operations team, Capital Air Services client numbers are on the up.

The Problem
With clients all over the world, Capital Air Services are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With the business growing rapidly, their existing IT systems were holding them back. The operations team couldn’t remotely access files or email to be able to manage the business efficiently. In terms of day to day operations, members of staff had individual PCs with various access privileges but not everyone could see the file directories they needed. Backing up processes were in place but were manual and time consuming, which meant staff simply weren’t doing it often enough. The overall feeling was that the company was on borrowed time before a major crash or security breach and Capital Air Services simply couldn’t afford to lose some of the valuable, industry leading directories and planning tools produced over the years.

The Solution
Capital Air Services felt they had outgrown their existing IT supplier and Oxfordshire Computer Service (OCS) were recommended by a mutual business contact. Following an initial meeting in June, OCS quickly responded with a number of upgrade options. Capital Air Services felt the Microsoft Small Business Server was the most flexible. It delivered against all of their immediate requirements and had the capabilities to support the growth of the business in the future. It was vital that the new system was integrated as quickly and seamlessly as possible. OCS completed the installation over the August Bank Holiday weekend and the Capital Air Services team were up and running the next day. The new system wasn’t at all intrusive. OCS were able to use all of the existing cabling and Capital Air Services were able to retain and use their existing work stations, which were cleaned up as part of the service. There are no special environmental requirements for the storage of the new server, as it runs from a single PC that lives underneath a desk. Backing up is now automated and there is no requirement for an ongoing IT support contract, as this simple and effective system practically runs itself.
